Part 6: Mommy, Where Do Monsters Come From?
May 9th, 2012 4:20pm
“Has this happened before?!” Harling asked Liam.
“No.’ Liam said. “Not like this.”
He didn’t look shocked, but he didn’t look calm either. Harling saw something between “I saw this coming” and “I can’t believe this is happening right now”.
Blake spoke up, since Harling was now speechless. “Why don’t you look afraid? Harling here looks more nervous than you, and this is his fourth encounter with this kind of thing.”
“Watch who you call thing!” The monster-Lucas said as he threw the tray of snacks at the wall.
“I know those eyes.” Liam said, ignoring Lucas. His eyes were locked on the beast, and his mouth hung low, as if amazed. “Those are his dark eyes. Not many people have seen those eyes on him.”
“You’ve seen those eyes before?” Harling said in amazement, his face looked like Liams now. “Where?”
“On Lucas. He gets them when he’s angry.”
“Are you sure?” Blake said, the only one in the room not looking at the creature.
“I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life. Oh God.”
“What’s wrong Liam?”
“It means he’s had one of those monsters inside him this whole time. I’ve seen those eyes a lot. They’ve always looked threatening, but nothing’s ever happened.” He broke his stare at Lucas to look Blake in the eye. “I figured something like this was going to happen eventually, I just never imagined he’d give it to Nina.”
“You think Lucas is the one Nina got her monster from?”
“Yes.”
“And this eye thing, how long has it been going on?”
Liam shook his head and said, “Twenty-seven years.”

“WHAT THE FUCK!” Blake said, shaking his fifth beer of the night in the air as he screamed. “These things have been around for twenty-seven years? I don’t believe it. How would they go unnoticed for that long?”
There was a long pause as everyone stopped to think.
“Aliens. It’s the only explanation.” Harling said as he tried to stand and take himself to the restroom. Blake nodded as if this explanation was the smartest thing he ever heard.
Blake continued to stumble out of the room for a few moments before Jenny stood up and said, “It’s not aliens you dumbasses. And Lucas never said they’d been around that long, he just said he noticed their eyes.”
“What a minute.” Blake said as he snapped his fingers, “The eyes of the monster! You’re a genius!” He laughed. “That means they’ve been around a while!”
Jenny shook her head, “You’re an idiot.” Then she walked towards Blake. “Where do you think these monsters come from? How do they breed and populate?”
“I don’t know.” Blake said. “That’s what we’re trying to figure out.”
“We need to check the facts.” She walked over to the wall of Blake’s small living and dining room, that was also a kitchen and closet, and started writing on the wall with a sharpie she pulled out of her pocket.
“We don’t know much about the history of the previous two…” she paused to think, “Let’s call them the monsters inside cases, but we know a bit about Nina.”
She started drawing what looked like a tree and said, “Nina lost her shit. She said something was using her, almost controlling her against her will. Her fiance says she had seemed depressed after a falling out with her parents. It also made her irritable.” She added all of this to her tree diagram as she spoke. “Also we know without a shadow of a doubt that her father has a monster inside.’
She stepped back for a moment and looked at her work. A moment later all three of them looked at the clock and said “Oh shit. The monsters must be highly contagious.’
“Easy, all we need to do is find something that will kill the spread of the monsters.”
“That’s not easy at all.” Jenny said. “Because I’m pretty sure these monsters come from inside.”
Part 7 will be released soon.
